Rhode Island Ethics Commission finds no probable cause to believe Governor McKee violated Code of
Ethics.
Attorneys Michael A. Kelly and James P. Murphy of Kelly, Souza & Parmenter, PC (“KSP Law”) represented Governor McKee before the Rhode Island Ethics Commission’s investigation into allegations the Governor accepted a gift over $25.00 in violation of the Code of Ethics. The Governor was accused of violating the code of Ethics during a fundraising lunch with his campaign finance chair, a lobbyist, and the lobbyists’ clients. KSP Law presented overwhelming evidence through sworn testimony and legal analysis that Governor McKee did not commit a knowing and willful violation of the Code of Ethics. The
Ethics Commission prosecutor agreed and presented the Ethics Commission with a detailed report, which concluded, “There does not exist probable cause to believe that the Respondent (Governor McKee) committed a knowing and willful violation of the Code of Ethics.”. The Ethics Commission unanimously voted that there was no probable cause to support the allegations against the Governor and the ethics complaint was dismissed with prejudice.
Approximately 1 year ago, Attorney Kelly and KSP Law also obtained a dismissal of the Ethics Complaint filed against Tony Silva, the former Chief of Staff and current Campaign Chairman for Governor McKee.
